What to do if you ignitor is not working
Here are two quick and easy troubleshooting/maintenance tips if your ignitor is not sparking and lighting your grill.
Check the Battery
- The ignitor module is powered by AA batteries. If you see any corrosion in the battery compartment it can be removed by wrapping a small piece of sandpaper around the eraser end of a pencil and using that to scrape off the corrosion.
- If you do not see any corrosion, or removing the corrosion does not fix the situation, try installing a new AA battery into the battery compartment. To change the batteries in this ignition module, you will need to remove the grill knobs and open the control panel. The ignition is located behind the control panel.
Clean the Ignition Rods
Electric starting ignition rods in grills are frequently subjected to contamination from cooking fumes, grease and food particles. If the ignition rod gets covered with contaminants, it won’t spark. However, the rods can be cleaned, using rubbing alcohol on the tip of a cotton swab. Gently rub the swab over the ignitor rod tip and attempt to start the grill. You may have to clean the tip several times before the starter will work.
